Provost Fellows in the Division of Academic Affairs enhance their career growth as they gain professional experience in university administration and expand the support that this Division provides to the campus community.
About the Program
The mission of the UNCG Provost Fellows Program is to provide full-time UNCG faculty with exposure to and practical experience in the administrative functions of the Division of Academic Affairs, while enhancing their effectiveness of the UNCG Office of the Provost. Provost Fellows engage collaboratively in faculty success programming and focus individually in one of the four following areas:
A Provost Fellow focused in this area may gain hands-on experience in academic governance, program development, and institutional accreditation. Activities may also include engaging in initiatives related to online learning, artificial intelligence integration, and academic innovation to enhance program quality and alignment with university and system-wide goals. Fellows will develop a comprehensive understanding of how academic programming, accreditation, and emerging technologies intersect to advance institutional effectiveness.
A Provost Fellow focused in this area engages in high-impact projects that support faculty success and the management of academic resources. The fellow may create and implement initiatives that enhance faculty development, leadership, and recognition across the institution. The fellow may participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of policies affecting faculty, including reappointment, promotion, and tenure; faculty workload; and strategic initiatives related to faculty success. The fellow will also engage with faculty governance as applicable, including Faculty Senate.
A Provost Fellow focused in this area is a Member of the Graduate Faculty (a full-time faculty member who holds a terminal degree in a field appropriate for their appointment) and will engage in a range of activities related to graduate education administration that may include, but are not limited to, promoting graduate student professional development, graduate student-facing engagement, and/or ways to facilitate graduate programs’ efforts to achieve their goals. A Provost Fellow in this area will be a thought partner for the Dean of the Graduate School and will collaborate with other administrative leaders to support graduate students, programs, and Graduate Faculty. The experience will provide the Fellow with a broader institutional view, opportunities to provide a faculty perspective to Graduate School priorities, and familiarity with other UNCG leaders.
A Provost Fellow focused in this area will engage with our comprehensive, data-informed student success ecosystem, which integrates academic policy, curriculum design, advising, mentoring, experiential learning, wellness, financial support, and coordinated care pathways to support students from entry through graduation. The Fellow will serve as a faculty thought partner to campus partners in examining how academic structures, instructional practices, and policy decisions shape student persistence, progression, and completion. Activities may include contributing to analyses of retention and academic momentum indicators, supporting cross-unit initiatives that strengthen wellbeing, belonging and academic recovery; and helping translate evidence-based student success strategies into faculty-facing practices
Each appointment as a Provost Fellow has a term of one year. During this term, the appointment consists of 30% effort during the academic year, and one month of workload over the summer. The one month of workload over the summer is associated with a summer add pay of one month. The 30% effort during the academic year will represent a reallocation of workload from teaching, research, or service, as negotiated with the Fellow’s academic supervisor (head/chair/director) and with approval of the unit dean. For each Fellow, this reallocation of workload will specify the percentages of effort across teaching, research, and service being reallocated to the Provost Fellow role, as documented in an MOU outlining the nature of the Provost Fellow appointment.

Beth Webb
Beth Webb, M.S.W., LCSW, LSSW, Associate Professor of Social Work, will be working with Vice Provost, Regina McCoy on projects related to Student Success.
Brad Johnson
Dr. Brad Johnson, Clinical Professor of Higher Education, will be working with both Dean, Greg Bell, and Vice Provost, Regina McCoy on projects related to Graduate Education and Student Success.
Jessica McCall
Dr. Jessica McCall, Principal Lecturer, in Communication Studies, will be working with Vice Provost Jodi Pettazzoni on projects related to Academic Programming and Accreditation.
Tami Draves
Dr. Tami Draves, Marion Stedman Covington Distinguished Professor of Music Education, will be working with Senior Vice Provost, Randy Penfield on projects related to Faculty Affairs and Budgeting.
