RE:  Call for Nominations/Applications for Faculty Success/Pathfinders Program

As a part of our larger efforts to support retention and promotion and tenure among faculty of color, we are continuing our support of early career faculty to attend the Faculty Success Program conducted by the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD:https://www.facultydiversity.org/).  As you may remember, UNCG is an institutional member of NCFDD.

The Faculty Success Program is a 12-week online program designed to develop skills to enhance research and writing productivity, as well as to develop strategies for work-life balance. This signature program includes a 12-week intensive mentoring and productivity boot camp where participants will work directly with an NCFDD certified coach (tenured faculty), and a small group to implement the skills and strategies from the core curriculum. These efforts are supported by an intense accountability structure as participants complete weekly training modules, weekly check-ins with coaches (75 minutes) and associated assignments, including a daily writing practice. This year, the Summer Faculty Success program runs from 5/15 – 8/6/2022. More details may be found here https://www.facultydiversity.org/fsp-bootcamp

Efforts like these are occurring at universities across the country seeking to support faculty of color. Several of our own faculty, from varied backgrounds and disciplines, have also recently participated in this program and highly recommend it.

The Provost’s Office will provide funds to support the cost for up to 10 faculty participants, with priority given to early career. The Spartans ADVANCE (https://advance.uncg.edu/)  program is co-sponsoring this effort to allow an additional 1-2 mid-career women faculty who are working in STEM or STEM adjacent fields to participate in the program. This program is being offered at no charge to participants.

Selected applicants will be asked for a brief evaluation of their experience and will be invited to attend a Fall 2022 workshop open to all Assistant Professors who can learn from their experiences with the Faculty Success Program. ADVANCE will also host an event for tenured faculty to learn from mid-career attendees.

To nominate a faculty member or to self-nominate, please complete this short application form by 2/25/2022 at 5:00pm.

If you have questions, please contact Tracy Nichols, Provost Fellow for Faculty Development (trnicho2@uncg.edu) and Jenny Johnson, Assistant to the Provost (jennyjojohnson@uncg.edu).
