Dr. Samantha Raynor
Assistant Provost of Strategic Student Success Initiatives

Dr. Samantha Raynor is currently the Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Student Success Initiatives as well as the co-principal investigator and site team coordinator of the Frontier Set Grant Initiatives. She is a first-generation college student who grew up in Eastern North Carolina and is passionate about creating opportunities for students to succeed on their own college journey. As a new mom, her recent hobbies include spending time with her husband and son. Dr. Raynor earned her Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College, her Master’s degree from East Carolina University, and her Ed. D. in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University.

Denisha Bland
Assistant Director of Frontier Set Initiatives

Denisha Bland serves as the Assistant Director of Frontier Set Initiatives. She earned both her Bachelors in Social Work and Masters in Student Personnel Administration from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Previously serving as a School Social Worker, she created a college preparation program for students. Through this program, she became motivated to help support students throughout the college transition from high school. Denisha was a first-generation college student and believes one of her strongest attributes is navigating new territory. In her free time, she enjoys creative writing, karaoke and dance fitness classes.

Shelley C. Wald is currently the Assistant Director for Residence Life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Longwood University and Master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her passion areas include: student leadership, men’s issues, LGBTQ students, and first-generation students. She enjoys spending time with her family, baking, reading, and watching college sports in her free time. Shelley C. Wald serves as Spartan StartUp’s Housing and Residence Life partner.

Brandi Bell serves as the Graduate Assistant for Frontier Set Initiatives and assists in the planning and operation of the Spartan StartUp program. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in School Counseling at UNCG. She is a first-generation college student and is passionate about working with this student population. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and painting.

Emily Dolive
English 101 Professor

Emily J. Dolive is a Texas native, but she completed her M.A. in New Hampshire, and will receive her Ph.D. in English from UNC Greensboro in May 2019. In her five years as an instructor at UNCG she has taught College Writing each semester and several literature courses on poetry, travel writing, and the nineteenth-century. Aside from teaching and completing graduate work, Emily enjoys learning to bake and rooting for the Dallas Mavericks.

Beth Miller Ball

Beth Miller Ball is currently pursuing her PhD in English at UNC Greensboro and is a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She earned her Master’s degree in English at East Tennessee Statue University and her Bachelor’s degree at the University of South Carolina. In her free time, she enjoys doing yoga and going on walks with her two Labrador retrievers. She is excited to teach English 101 for Spartan StartUp students this summer.
