We are excited to announce the expansion of New Student Convocation beginning next fall. This campus-wide initiative will kick off with the traditional New Student Convocation Ceremony, and then extend into programming centered around academic departments and resources. The newly named NAV1GATE New Student Convocation will take place on Monday, August 14, 2017. New for next year, classes will begin on Tuesday of that week.

NAV1GATE New Student Convocation will be designed to better focus students on the academic component of their new educational journey. By giving them the opportunity to connect with faculty and to receive in-depth information about resources to support their success, we believe students will be better equipped for a strong start. Led by Enrollment Management, a team of faculty, deans, and staff from across campus is planning this important day of programming. If you would like to get involved with the team, please contact Kim Sousa Peoples, Director, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience at

The university will integrate the 125th Anniversary marketing for the inaugural event. The campus community also will be invited to document the event on social media, using the hashtag #NAV1GATEUNCG.

How are faculty and staff involved?

We hope that this day will build a sense of excitement, commitment, and community for our students. That will be much more likely to happen if faculty and staff are fully engaged in the day and reflect those same values. Deans, department heads and chairs, and other leaders on campus have been asked to avoid planning other activities for that Monday, and we ask that you do the same. As the planning unfolds, you will be hearing about ways in which you can contribute to this important initiative. Change can be challenging, but it can also open new doors.

Stayed tuned for an event schedule and other updates. Information will be posted here as it becomes available.
