Excellence Day


Celebration of Excellence Set for May 7th


UNCG will honor achievements by faculty, students and staff during two celebrations on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in EUC Auditorium.

The University Excellence Awards Convocation will begin at 4 P.M. Several awards will be presented to recognize excellence in teaching, research, and service. Most are funded by the UNCG Excellence Foundation. Honors to be presented are:

  • Research Excellence Awards, to a full professor and an assistant professor.
  • Staff Excellence Awards, to a member or members of the UNCG staff.
  • Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards, to two untenured faculty members.
  • Gladys Strawn Bullard Awards, recognizing service by faculty, staff and students.
  • George and Beatrice Fisher Gerontology Dissertation Award.
  • Outstanding doctoral dissertation and master’s thesis awards, and graduate assistant teaching awards.

The Undergraduate Honors Convocation will begin at 7 P.M. Student Excellence Award certificates will be conferred upon juniors and seniors. Students who completed the Honors Program will also be recognized. Dr. Svi H. Shapiro (Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations) will be the featured speaker.

Displays by students in the Undergraduate Research Assistant program will be on view from noon until 6:30 P.M. in the EUC Auditorium Lobby, with presentations scheduled from 5:15 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. A buffet supper for the UNCG community will be held from 5:15 P.M. to 6:45 P.M. in Cone Ballroom.
