Professional Librarian
First Year Instruction Coordinator and Reference Librarian

The University Libraries seek a dynamic and service-oriented librarian to join the Reference and Instructional Services Department as First Year Instruction Coordinator. The Reference and Instructional Services Department is responsible for designing web resources and for providing assistance in conducting research using a variety of electronic and print resources. The person in this position reports to the Department Head and collaborates with a department of nine librarians and four support staff to provide reference services and information literacy programs. Working with the Department’s Information Literacy Coordinator, this position will assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing first year information literacy programs.

Responsibilities:

Assumes responsibility for first year information literacy program.

Develops and delivers instruction sessions and other resources supporting curriculum in collaboration with faculty.

Provides reference desk service in person and using phone, chat and e-mail. Some night and weekend hours required.

Collaborates on assessment of instructional and reference activities.

Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments in the humanities or social sciences including collection development responsibilities.

Develops web based reference and instruction resources.

Contributes actively to the profession and participates in professional organizations.

The University Libraries:

The University Libraries support the learning and research missions of the University through its print and electronic resources, reference and instructional services, and other outreach programs. With a budget of $9 million, the collections include 1.2 million book volumes, more than 47,000 electronic and print journal subscriptions, over 500 electronic databases, and 640,000 federal government documents.

The University:

Founded in 1891, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting, residential university and is one of sixteen institutions in The University of North Carolina System. UNCG's picturesque campus includes 30 academic buildings and 24 residence halls on 210 acres. Current enrollment totals approximately 17,500 students including 3,700 graduate students.

Salary and Benefits:

The University Libraries offers a competitive salary. Librarians have tenure track faculty status. Benefits include: 24 days vacation, 12 days sick leave; State of NC preferred provider medical insurance, and state, TIAA/CREF, or other retirement options. Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS degree.

Experience in providing information literacy and curriculum integrated instruction.

Knowledge of reference resources and techniques and a subject background in humanities or social sciences.

Evidence of collaboration with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students.

Excellent teaching and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to create user-centered online resources.

Ability to innovate using new technologies to improve library services.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collegially.

Ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing.

Commitment to high-quality service and strong service orientation.

Demonstrated professional achievement, service, and scholarly activity for merit evaluation and tenure.

Ability to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse university environment.
