Responsibilities:
Assistant/Associate Professor of Spanish

The Department of Romance Languages at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Spanish Applied Linguistics, to begin fall semester 2010.

Area of specialization: Spanish Linguistics specializing in second language acquisition, pedagogy, and/or other relevant area of applied linguistics. Candidate will be expected to serve as Director of Language Instruction, in a rotational basis, after initial familiarity with the Spanish Basic Language Program (the DLI’s primary responsibility). Experience in Language Program Direction or coordination of Spanish/other related administrative experience will be considered a plus. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching and service.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics or a related discipline by August 1, 2010.

The successful candidate will be able to teach at all levels, from beginning language to Master’s courses in language, methodology and other areas of linguistics. Ability to teach foreign language methodologies and experience in developing curriculum for heritage speakers a plus. The usual teaching load in the department is three courses per semester with teaching reductions for administrative purposes and research available.
