Responsibilities: Director, Center For Research Excellence in Nanobiosciences The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Center for Research Excellence in Nanobiosciences (CREN). The purpose of the Center is to develop a strong interdisciplinary program in this rapidly developing sector that will positively impact the economy, workforce development, research and teaching. It is anticipated that CREN will develop research programs in the areas of synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, nanoscale modeling and simulation, environmental nanobiology, medical, therapeutic and toxicological studies of nanomaterials, computational nanobiology, design and development of nanodevices for biological applications or other leading-edge nanobiology areas of investigation that are closely aligned with the industrial, health care and entrepreneurial communities in the Piedmont Triad region. UNC Greensboro, one of 17 campuses in the University of North Carolina system, is a rapidly growing comprehensive high-intensity research university with more than 770 faculty and approximately 17,400 students, including 3,700 graduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences and six professional schools (Business and Economics, Education, Health and Human Performance, Human Environmental Sciences, Music and Nursing). The Piedmont Triad region has 11 four-year institutions and nine community colleges. There is easy access to recreational opportunities at the coast and the mountains. The local metropolitan area (which includes the cities of High Point and Winston-Salem) has a population of almost 1.5 million and offers an excellent quality of life. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized expert in one of these areas and must demonstrate qualifications for a tenured associate/full professorship in a science represented at UNCG. He/she will play a primary role in developing the Center, crafting its mission, hiring additional faculty, and interacting with industries and other universities in the Piedmont Triad area to position the Center as a lead player in the nanobiosciences. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to be closely affiliated with the North Carolina A&T State University and UNCG’s collaborative Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. It is anticipated that the activities of the Center will take place in laboratories on the UNCG campus as well as at the Gateway University Research Park, a joint millennial campus of UNCG and the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (http://www.gatewayurp.com/). Applicants should have a demonstrated and ongoing record of funded research. They should also have a strong record of scholarly publications, patent applications and technology transfer.
