Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education

The Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education, School of Education, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, announces the availability of a tenure-track position in mathematics education at the assistant professor level. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach K-12 mathematics education courses, with particular emphasis on secondary mathematics education, on campus-based, web-based (Blackboard supported instruction) and extension sites.

Responsibilities for the Mathematics Education Position (6-12):

Teach in a variety of settings including classroom, Web-Based, Distance, and Extension Programs.

Teach and supervise teacher candidates in middle grades and secondary programs in PDS setting.

Teach graduate courses, advise Master’s students, and co-direct Doctoral students.

Meet expectations for scholarship and grant writing for a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution.

Contribute to the overall teaching, research, and service missions of the School of Education.

The Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education prepares pre-service, graduate elementary, middle grades, and secondary teachers to teach mathematics. Programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels are offered in the Department. Many opportunities are available to become involved in some or all of these programs.

The University is Doctoral/Research Extensive with an enrollment of over 18,000 students, located in Greensboro, a city of 220,000 in a metropolitan area of more than one million people. Located 70 miles from Raleigh, the state capitol, the area has a strong historical, cultural, and arts traditions. Qualifications:
Qualifications for the Mathematics Education Position (6-12):

Earned doctorate in mathematics education with the equivalence of a Master’s degree in the mathematical sciences.

Commitment to teacher education and development in a collaborative, Professional Development School Model and collegial community.

Demonstrated scholarship (e.g. presentations and publications) in mathematics education.

Successful experiences in middle grades or high school teaching, especially with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
