SERVE

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH SPECIALIST for a university-based research, development, dissemination, evaluation, and technical assistance center. SERVE Center is seeking an individual to oversee and manage large education-related data sets and engage in quantitative and some qualitative research related to large-scale education reform initiatives. The Quantitative Research Specialist participates in the design and implementation of research and evaluation activities for the Research and Evaluation division at SERVE. Major responsibilities include: providing leadership on research and evaluation methods (particularly survey construction and related response rates); data management and analysis, developing instruments for use in research and evaluation studies; conducting school site visits, data collection, entry, and cleaning, writing, and presenting results of research and evaluation activities; conducting research syntheses; creating public use datasets and codebooks; and, performing other duties to support the mission of SERVE. This Durham or Greensboro (NC) based position, or other arrangements as approved by the hiring supervisor, will be a three-quarters time (.75 FTE) employee at SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with benefits.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 5-10 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 1-5 years of experience in social sciences, statistics, quantitative methods or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and proficiency with SPSS/SAS/STATA and/or other statistical software, and managing education or social-science related data sets. Knowledge of statistical principles and basic analytic techniques, particularly related to survey research methodology. Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team and manage simultaneous tasks while displaying an astute attention to detail. Must be highly organized, have excellent writing and oral communication skills, be comfortable interacting with individuals at all organizational levels, and be able to develop and execute effective plans for accomplishing project objectives. Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of research and/or evaluation methods and a content area in education or related social science field. Content expertise in educational reform preferred. Knowledge, skills, and/or experience working in racially, culturally, and/or linguistically diverse education settings.

Salary:
Salary range, $50,000 - $62,000, or commensurate with education and experience.
